Thank You to All of Our Supporters!

Since disaster struck Japan on March 11, 2011, we have been taken aback by the generosity of old friends and new acquaintances alike. Friends around the world have gone to great lengths to help by contributing to JCIE's Japan NGO Earthquake Relief & Recovery Fund as well as to other disaster funds managed by JCIE.

Nearly $1.7 million was contributed to the Japan NGO Earthquake Relief & Recovery Fund by individuals, corporations, schools, churches, and philanthropic foundations. The range of people who have organized special fundraising drives is extraordinary, from American schoolchildren to Japanese artists to healthcare professionals in Taiwan, and it includes people from all walks of life.

Half of the funds contributed in the initial three months were designated for groups working on the ground to provide immediate relief and all of these, a total of $304,000 was distributed to 6 exemplary organizations. But, the path to recovery after disasters like this is a long one, so we have allocated the remaining funds entrusted to us to support more than 30 innovative organizations engaged in the recovery over the long term. These organizations are playing a critical, long-term role in rebuilding communities and helping people get back on their feet.

Meanwhile, other supporters have aided the recovery by donating nearly $2 million through additional JCIE-managed funds, including the Bain Capital Japan Disaster Relief Fund and other initiatives. This heartfelt support has played a major role in helping the region get back on its feet and, for that, we say thank you.
