Keiko Watanabe, Director, Global Health

As the director of global health at JCIE/USA, Keiko provides substantive and administrative support for JCIE’s global health advocacy work in Japan, including for the work of the Friends of the Global Fund, Japan. Keiko started her career in 1993 as the founding director of the Japan office of the International Youth Foundation (IYF), following which she worked as a program officer at UNFPA and UNICEF in the areas of reproductive health and adolescent health. Since 2001, she has worked in advocacy and resource mobilization for the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI). Born in Tokyo, Keiko grew up in Tokyo, the Philippines, and in the suburbs of Washington DC. She received a Bachelor of Law from Hitotsubashi University, and a Master’s Degree from the Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She is a lecturer at her alma mater and a consultant to IAVI and other nonprofits.
