As part of the China-Japan-US Research and Dialogue Project, a fifth workshop was held in Yokohama on October 12–13, 2000. The meeting, which brought an end to the first five-year phase of the project, gathered senior project members and the successor generation study groups. Other leading intellectual figures from the three countries were also invited to the conference to discuss the evolution of the trilateral relationship over the previous five years.
Discussion on domestic and international political, social, economic, and security issues highlighted the major changes that had occurred during the course of the project and examined implications significant to trilateral relations.
