JCIE launched the Global Health Diet Roundtable series in 2018 as part of its Global Health and Human Security program. The aim of this program is to assist a bipartisan group of young and emerging Diet members in deepening their understanding of global health issues.

JCIE held its Fourth Global Health Diet Roundtable on the sidelines of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), convening six up-and-coming leaders of the Japanese Diet for a conversation with Dr. Muhammad Pate, Director of the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children and Adolescents (GFF); World Bank Global Director of Health, Nutrition and Population; and former Nigerian State Minister for Health. Dr. Pate briefed the Japanese legislators on the GFF’s unique structure as a financing facility that catalyzes funding and coordinates partner programs around comprehensive, country-led strategies to address reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH-N) challenges in the world’s highest burden countries. The meeting was organized as part of a roundtable series that is designed to engage up-and-coming legislators in global health discussions, giving them a chance to discuss key issues with domestic and international leaders in the field.
