Six legislative and party staffers from Japan visited Washington DC and various locations around Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee as part of the 2024 Japanese delegation of the US-Japan Young Political Leaders Exchange Program, which is co-sponsored by JCIE and the American Council for Young Political Leaders (ACYPL).
In Washington DC, their agenda included meetings with government officials, ACYPL representatives, political campaign committees, policy experts, and business representatives. They visited the US Department of State, the Capitol Building, Department of Defense, the Pentagon, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, learning more about US-Japan relations and US history. Topics for discussion include US-Japan security and trade relations, US politics and government, healthcare, welfare and labor rights, Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, and campaigns and political communications in the US.
The group then headed to Memphis and Nashville for meetings with local politicians and private sector representatives, where they learned about local-national political relations, local finances and revenue, the state justice system, state legislation, and local industries and developments. They discussed and learned more about the local sports and music industry of these culturally vibrant cities of Tennessee, as well as private education at the PURE Youth Academy.
