AARP International’s The Journal Features JCIE’s US-Japan Exchange on Healthy and Resilient Aging

The 2025 edition of AARP International’s The Journal highlighted JCIE USA’s Healthy & Resilient Aging Program, which connects Japanese and American communities to share innovations and best practices on healthy aging.

The article details lessons learned by Holly Dabelko-Schoeny and Marisa Sheldon, alumni of JCIE’s 2023 exchange program, during their time in Japan.  They explore  the diverse range of topics they were exposed to through the exchange including Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Japan’s long-term care and community-based care system, technology and innovation, disaster preparedness and response for older adults, and how the concept of ikigai, or living a life of purpose, informed approaches to engaging older adults in various communities they visited.
