Under the leadership of Catherine King MP, the 12th Australian delegation visited Tokyo, Miyazaki, and Kyoto. In Tokyo, the seven delegates took part in several discussion sessions with leading political figures. In light of Japan’s continuing economic difficulties, the delegates were interested in discussing the domestic assessment of the Koizumi Cabinet and its progress.

FGFJ | U2’s Bono speaks with Japanese Leaders on AIDS and Africa

The FGFJ, in cooperation with DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa) and Hottokenai, Sekai no Mazushisa, arranged a number of meetings and events for Bono in Tokyo between November 28 and December 1, 2006. The renowned musician and dedicated advocate for the fight against communicable diseases and extreme poverty met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and urged him to provide more support for Africa and the fight against AIDS.
FGFJ | Tokyo Seminar on Careers in the Global Fund

The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) / Friends of the Global Fund, Japan (FGFJ) held a seminar in Tokyo on June 23, 2009, to increase understanding of the activities and role of the Global Fund, and to share information with Japanese professionals about career possibilities within the Global Fund. The public seminar targeted young and mid-career professionals interested in working for international organizations.

On April 21, 2006, Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, joined a small group of JCIE/FGFJ board members representing various sectors of Japanese society for a special briefing session on Japan’s response to the spread of the major communicable diseases.
FGFJ | Roundtable on Global Health

JCIE / FGFJ convened a roundtable in Tokyo on August 6, 2007, with Tachi Yamada, president of the Bill & Melinda Gate’s Foundation’s Global Health Program, titled Addressing Challenges in Global Health: How the Public and Private Sectors Can Work Together. Approximately 50 representatives from civil society, businesses, academia, the government, and the media attended the event.
FGFJ | Diet Members Visit South African Communities Affected by AIDS

From June 29 to July 4, 2006, JCIE/FGFJ Diet Task Force Director Ichiro Aisawa (Member, House of Representatives, Liberal Democratic Party) and Hiroyuki Nagahama (Member, House of Representatives, Democratic Party of Japan) traveled to South Africa to visit communities ravaged by the AIDS epidemic.
FGFJ | All Nippon Airlines Publicizes the Global Fund on its Flights

The FGFJ arranged for All Nippon Airways (ANA), one of Japan’s two major carriers, to air a video on the Global Fund on all of its domestic flights for three months, from September to December 2006. ANA’s in-flight magazine, Wingspan, which is distributed on all domestic and international flights, simultaneously ran a two-page spread on the Global Fund.
