Tanaka Juku Seminar Series
In 2006, JCIE launched the JCIE Tanaka Juku, an annual three-month series of intensive evening seminars for about 20 young political leaders, corporate executives, journalists, and emerging intellectual leaders under the tutorage of Hitoshi Tanaka, JCIE senior fellow and former deputy minister for foreign affairs.
Bilateral Policy Dialogues
In the 1980s and 1990s, JCIE/Japan launched a number of annual policy dialogues that brought together leaders from various sectors to discuss the key domestic, bilateral, and international issues of the day.
Tadashi Yamamoto Memorial Seminar
Throughout his career, JCIE’s founder Tadashi Yamamoto made a special effort to engage both senior and emerging leaders from politics, government, civil society, and other walks of life in the type of substantive policy dialogue that builds the foundations for greater international cooperation.
US-Japan Parliamentary Exchange
The US-Japan Parliamentary Exchange Program brings members of the US Congress and Japanese Diet to one another’s countries for a series of intensive dialogues with leaders from a broad range of fields. Participants in the US-Japan Parliamentary Exchange Program have risen to influential positions in their respective countries with an enhanced understanding of the US-Japan relationship.
US-Japan Young Political Leaders Exchange
In 1973, JCIE and the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) jointly launched the US-Japan Young Political Leaders Exchange Program, an annual bilateral exchange program designed to expose young leaders of each country to the politics and policymaking processes of the other country and to enhance their understanding of US-Japan relations.
JCIE/USA Roundtables & Special Events
JCIE/USA holds occasional roundtables, offering an opportunity for visiting scholars and experts to engage in initimate discussions with a select group of relevant stakeholders from the New York area. It also convenes roundtables that target the US-Japan Journalism Fellows and holds additional events for the business community.
An Enhanced Agenda for US-Japan Partnership
JCIE and the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership undertook a study to explore how bilateral cooperation can be deepened in order to face common challenges, strengthen regional and global stability and prosperity, and, ultimately, make the US-Japan alliance more robust and versatile in light of wide-ranging developments that had begun to reshape Asia at the start of the 20th century.
ASEAN-Japan Strategic Partnership and Regional Community Building
This project aimed to study the role and contributions of ASEAN-Japan Partnership in promoting regional community building in Southeast Asia and East Asia, as well as in contributing to global governance. It explored the framework of Japan-ASEAN partnership in ASEAN, Japan’s role in promoting the integration of ASEAN and Japan, and ways in which Japan-ASEAN cooperation can contribute to the creation of an East Asian community.
Asia Pacific Agenda Project (APAP)
The Asia Pacific Agenda Project (APAP) is a multinational consortium of policy research organizations and academic institutions designed to strengthen networks and enhance joint research and dialogue among institutions and intellectual leaders in the Asia Pacific. It also aims to train young scholars as the future leaders of international policy-related research.
G7 2016 Global Health Working Group
As host of the G7 Summit in 2016, Japan has the unique opportunity to set the tone for how global health priorities will be addressed in the summit agenda and help articulate how they will be formulated within the post-development framework. In order to capitalize on this opportunity and the growing momentum surrounding UHC as an increasingly important global priority, JCIE, in partnership with the University of Tokyo, has organized a Global Health Working Group (GHWG) to formulate policy proposals that will guide talks on global health.
