Growing Asia-Pacific Regionalism and New Opportunities to Advance Non-traditional Security Cooperation
The overall objective of this research project was to examine intraregional cooperation and the supraregional contributions of that cooperation. The research team was comprised of younger and mid-level researchers with expertise in each of the research areas.
Toshiba Youth Conference for a Sustainable Future
Toshiba Youth Conference for a Sustainable Future brings together high school students and teachers from Japan, Poland, Thailand, and the United States to encourage the students to deepen their awareness of environmental issues and to take the lead in their communities in working toward a better future. The program also seeks to enhance the teachers’ ability to promote environmental, scientific, and intercultural communication education.
Tiffany Foundation Award
In 2008, JCIE and the Tiffany & Co. Foundation established the Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society in order to recognize organizations that have made notable contributions to the promotion of Japanese traditional culture and to the revitalization of local communities.
East Asia and a Rising India: Prospects for the Region
In 2007, JCIE coordinated a joint study to explore India’s growing relations with East Asia and their significance for the emerging East Asia community. Policy experts discussed the implications of India’s inclusion in the region, the question of how to best manage a regional order characterized by the involvement of multiple large powers, and India’s interests and concerns regarding community building in East Asia.
Exploring Kyushu’s International Strategy
In 2007, JCIE began research on “International Relations at the Local Level in Japan: Exploring Kyushu’s International Strategy.” The study focused on the relationship between Kyushu and its Asian neighbors in light of the proposed amalgamation of Japan’s prefectures through the introduction of a new “regional system.”
Ajinomoto International Cooperation for “Nutrition and Health” Support Program
The Ajinomoto International Cooperation for “Nutrition and Health” Support Program was a grant program aimed at improving the quality of life of people in developing countries through support for international cooperation activities in local communities in the field of food and nutrition.
An Enhanced Agenda for US-Japan Partnership
JCIE and the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership undertook a study to explore how bilateral cooperation can be deepened in order to face common challenges, strengthen regional and global stability and prosperity, and, ultimately, make the US-Japan alliance more robust and versatile in light of wide-ranging developments that had begun to reshape Asia at the start of the 20th century.
Managing China-Japan-US Relations and Strengthening Trilateral Cooperation
In 2007, JCIE launched a study and dialogue project aimed at developing a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics of the China-Japan-US trilateral relationship, identifying the issues central to managing stable and cooperative relations, and examining ways of promoting more meaningful cooperation on key challenges.
Microsoft Japan NPO Support Program
In 2002, Microsoft Japan launched a grantmaking program for Japanese NPOs called the Microsoft Japan NPO Cooperation Program. This program aims to empower nonprofit organizations in Japan through the use of IT.
Development of Trilateral Cooperation in Global Governance among East Asia, North America, and Europe
Beginning in 2006, this APAP research program focused on the question of the “Development of Trilateral Cooperation among East Asia, North America, and Europe” and how the creation of a functional trilateral structure might be created to foster the stable development of global governance. As a result of the project, East Asia at a Crossroads was published in 2008.
