Briefing on the ACT-Accelerator at the Special Session of the Executive Committee on Global Health and Human Security

May 19, 2021
Virtual

As a part of our efforts to bring in various perspectives to the global health discussion in Japan, JCIE often invites distinguished experts to the Executive Committee on Global Health and Human Security to share their insights and engage in discussions with the committee members.

On May 19, ten leaders of the global health organizations that comprise the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, as well as Ambassador Carl Bildt, WHO Special Envoy for ACT-Accelerator, joined the Special Session of the Executive Committee to explain how this unprecedented global health partnership is helping develop and equitably distribute all the critical COVID-19 tools—diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines, as well as the health systems connector. The discussion covered the ACT-Accelerator’s achievements over the previous year and its priorities for 2021. The ACT-Accelerator partners expressed what is needed to succeed in turning the tide on the pandemic, and how Japan can position its contributions to the ACT-Accelerator within the country’s global health priorities.
