JCIE, in cooperation with the UN Foundation, convened a small, high-level roundtable of global health experts and policymakers on the morning after the UN High-Level Meeting on UHC to discuss what the next steps should be to turn the commitments in recent forums into concrete action, maintain momentum in advancing UHC in low- and middle-income countries, and encourage Japan and other countries to continue to lead on the UHC agenda. This followed up on the work of JCIE’s International Advisory Group, which advised the Japanese government in advancing UHC and other global health priorities while chairing the G20 Summit.
Focus of Discussions:
- What progress has been made in the past year in advancing UHC, including through the G20 process, the UN-HLM, etc?
- How do we consolidate gains from the past year and turn the commitments that various countries have made into concrete action?
- What else is needed to help equip low- and middle-income countries to move toward UHC? What other steps are needed in terms of health financing? Does more need to be done to fill gaps elsewhere?
- How can Japan contribute as a global leader (including through financing, technical advice, and intellectual leadership)?
- What can be done to keep momentum beyond the HLM and the G20?
