UK-Japan 21st Century Group | 33rd Conference

October 6–9, 2016
Tokyo

The 33rd annual meeting of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group convened in Japan on October 6–9. The UK delegation began their visit in Tokyo with a briefing from the UK Ambassador to Japan Tim Hitchens, followed by a courtesy call on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. In the evening, they were joined by the Japanese delegation for a reception hosted by Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.

The group—comprised of politicians, journalists, businesspeople, and scholars— then moved to Kisarazu, where they held in-depth discussions on a broad range of issues that affect the two countries and their relationship, including the implications of Brexit, East Asia security affairs, the implications of aging societies, energy and climate change, “womenomics,” and international development cooperation in Africa.

JCIE co-organizes the UK-Japan 21st Century Group with the Japan Society of the UK in London.
