On May 14, 2010, more than 130 UN officials, health experts, NGO leaders, and policy analysts took part in a major seminar in New York exploring human security approaches to global health.

2nd GFF Seminar | The Global Financing Facility in the COVID-19 Crisis

JCIE launched the GFF Seminar series in 2020 as part of its efforts to deepen understanding of how the Japanese government, NGOs, and others can coordinate more effectively with the GFF in order to strengthen maternal and child health and expand universal health coverage in the world’s most vulnerable countries.

Survey of Japanese Legislators: Attitudes on ODA and Global Health

A JCIE survey of Japanese legislators finds that 80 percent of the 92 respondents favor steps to increase Japan’s official development assistance (ODA), with most prioritizing funding for health programs and education, followed by water & sanitation projects and humanitarian assistance.

The GFF and Prospects for Maternal and Child Health Services in Africa during the COVID-19 Crisis

JCIE continued its US-Japan Global Health Dialogue series to explore how the two countries can strengthen bilateral cooperation on health security under the Trump and Abe administrations. This second meeting convened more than 40 high-level government officials and policy experts from the United States and Japan.

JCIE held its 4th Global Health Diet Roundtable on the sidelines of the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7), convening six up-and-coming leaders of the Japanese Diet for a conversation with Dr. Muhammad Pate, Director of the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children and Adolescents (GFF).

COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund | The Significance of Private Donations in the Global COVID-19 Response

JCIE held a virtual meeting to deepen the understanding of COVID-19’s global impact and the important role the WHO plays in the global response. The discussion featured Naoko Yamamoto, assistant director-general of UHC and health systems at the World Health Organization (WHO), and Masataka Uo, CEO of the Japan Fundraising Association, with JCIE’s Satoko Itoh as a moderator.

Asia Pacific Regional Meeting on Innovative Partnerships for Health: Regional Solutions, Regional Opportunities

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE) organized—in collaboration with the Japan Institute for Global Health and the Pacific Health Summit—a high-level meeting in Tokyo on October 24, 2011, to explore the role of innovative partnerships in improving health in Asia Pacific.

Symposium on Universal Coverage in the 21st Century: Redefining Japan’s Health System

In partnership with renowned international medical journal, the Lancet, and the Asahi Shimbun, one of Japan’s leading newspapers, JCIE organized an international symposium on September 1, 2010, to explore the issue of universal coverage in aging societies like Japan, and to discuss preliminary findings of analysis on Japan’s health system.
