JCIE TICAD VI Roundtable | Investing in Health: Benefiting from Corporate Engagement in Health in Africa

JCIE and Amref Health Africa—a prominent African NGO working in the field of health throughout Africa—organized a corporate event that targeted Japanese corporate representatives to provide a rare opportunity for them to engage in practical discussions with representatives from Amref and to accompany Amref health workers to observe first-hand how innovative technologies are employed to improve health in Africa.

Towards Population Ageing in Africa

Held on the sidelines of the 7th Tokyo International Conference of African Development (TICAD7), this event brought together influential policymakers, NGO representatives, and academicians for a dialogue on the challenges of aging populations in Africa.

Satellite Seminar of the The Third TICAD Ministerial Follow–up Meeting: Health and Human Security in Africa

On May 2–3, 2011, JCIE organized a symposium and roundtable on “Health and Human Security in Africa” in Dakar, Senegal. The events were organized in conjunction with the Third Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Follow-Up Meeting.

Japan Visit and Diet Meetings of Dr. Peter Piot

Prof. Peter Piot, the former head of UNAIDS and current Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, paid a visit to Japan in fall 2014, during which time JCIE coordinated several of his meetings, including a breakfast meeting with nine members the Parliamentary Caucus on the Promotion of Human Security and a visit to a Tokyo community center that carries out AIDS prevention initiatives.

Global Health Roundtable | Human Resource Development and the Future of Africa

On July 14, 2009, Professor Miriam K. Were, first laureate of the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Award, visited Tokyo for a series of meetings with global health experts and a roundtable with Japanese leaders from various sectors. Professor Were is chairperson of the Kenyan National AIDS Control Council and co-founder and chairperson of the UZIMA Foundation of Kenya.

Global Health and Human Security | Press Tour to Kenya

On June 6 to 14, 2015, JCIE organized a press tour that brought a delegation of journalists from Japan to several locations in Kenya to examine the country’s development through the lens of the country’s healthcare system as part of JCIE’s Global Health and Human Security Program.

Global Health Diet Delegation to Guinea

In the wake of the recent Ebola crisis that struck West Africa, JCIE took a delegation of Diet members and health experts to one of the most affected countries, Guinea, to learn about the status of and future plans for the country’s health crisis management.

A final dissemination seminar for the Global Action for Health System Strengthening report was held in Nairobi, in collaboration with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF), on April 17–18, 2009.

Achieving Sustainable Financing for Health in Africa

On August 29, JCIE co-organized an event on Achieving Sustainable Financing for Health in Africa on the sidelines of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7). The event focused on the mobilization of domestic resources for health in African countries and on effective and sustainable use of funding.
