Strategic Assistance: Disaster Relief and Asia-Pacific Stability | Workshop III
The third workshop provided the project research team the opportunity to engage with key constituencies within the US., Japanese, and international HA/DR communities, present tentative recommendations designed to enhance US-Japan cooperation and coordination on HA/DR, and move toward operationalizing the Strategic Assistance concept.
Strategic Assistance: Disaster Relief and Asia-Pacific Stability | Workshop II
This second workshop was designed to solicit input regarding the region’s likely reaction to the proposed US-Japan Strategic Assistance concept from leaders in the United States, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Australia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Thailand, and to assess the regional perceptions of the current and future threat to regional stability that is posed by major disasters.
Strategic Assistance: Disaster Relief and Asia-Pacific Stability | Workshop I
A Washington DC workshop held as part of the Strategic Assistance Project, a collaborative research project of the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR) and JCIE, discussed how to develop an alliance-based approach to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) operations in South and Southeast Asia by engaging and incorporating military, government, and NGO leadership from the United States and Japan.
Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue | Moscow Seminar
JCIE, in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, held a seminar in Moscow on June 30, 1997, on the theme of “Japan-Russian Relations in Asia Pacific.” The seminar consisted of four sessions focusing on Japan-Russia relations in a regional context, economic issues, security issues, and regional cooperation.
Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue | 4th Meeting
The Fourth Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue was held in Chiba, Japan, on November 7-9, 2002, to explore the bilateral relationship in the context of the long-term changes underway in the Asia Pacific region, particularly China’s emergence as a regional power.
Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue | 3rd Meeting
JCIE held its Third Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue on October 13-14, 2001, in Tokyo, where four Russian and six Japanese opinion leaders met to exchange views on a variety of issues. Meetings were also arranged for the Russian participants with a number of Japanese Diet members before and after the workshop so they could discuss politics and foreign relations, including the antiterrorism legislation under consideration in the Die
Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue | 2nd Meeting
JCIE held its Second Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue on May 13-14, 2000, in Kisarazu, Japan, where a small group of Russian and Japanese opinion leaders met to exchange views on a variety of issues. The dialogue took place at a time of governmental change in both countries—in Russia, Vladimir Putin had just been elected as president in March 2000, while the Yoshiro Mori administration had just been formed in April in Japan.
Russia-Japan Policy Dialogue | Japan-Russia/Central Asia Dialogue Mission
From June 28 to July 10, 1997, a delegation of 60 Japanese leaders from the political and economic sectors, academia, research institutions, and government-related organizations traveled to Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, led by Keizo Obuchi, then Member of the House of Representatives.
