On August 21, 2025, JCIE convened globally renowned leaders in health, science, policy, and business from Africa and Japan to introduce and deepen discussions on a Common Vision calling for cooperation on co-creating health security and sustainable growth. The event delivered a compelling message focusing on health as a driver of economic growth and mutual benefit.

Africa-Japan Common Vision on Health—Recommendations for TICAD9

Toward the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) to be held in Yokohama in August 2025, JCIE launched a project to define the future direction of Africa-Japan partnership in the health sector beyond 2030, and propose a common vision which can be shared among public and private stakeholders in Africa and Japan.

Researchers surveyed uninsured immigrant workers in Japan to assess changes in health and lifestyle, and found a need for increased access to medical treatment, detailed examinations, and oral care for this population.

Building Understanding of and Support for the GFF

In 2015, the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children, and Adolescents (GFF) was established to help close the gap in financing that is needed to eliminate preventable deaths among women, children, and adolescents in low- and middle-income countries. The GFF supports government-led, multi-stakeholder platforms to develop and implement a national, prioritized health plan that aims to help mobilize sustainable financing for health and nutrition.

Building Climate-Resilient & Sustainable Health Systems through US-Japan Leadership

JCIE/USA is organizing a panel discussion at the US-Japan Council’s 2023 Annual Conference to explore how the US and Japan are addressing the relationship between climate change and human health.

Roundtable Discussion with Hiroshima G7 Global Health Taskforce Director in Washington DC

In 2023, Japan will host the G7 Summit in Hiroshima. JCIE has established a Hiroshima G7 Global Health Task Force to make recommendations to the Japanese government on the G7 agenda for global health. This roundtable was an opportunity for leading US policymakers and experts to hear from and offer feedback to the director of the Task Force, Dr. Hideaki Shiroyama.

Friends of the Global Fund, Japan hosted a reception on March 4, 2025, on the occasion of Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands’ first visit to Japan in two years.
