JCIE/USA hosted a luncheon discussion with alumni of our US-Japan Congressional Staff Exchange Program, to share their thoughts on what to expect from the 118th Congress following the 2022 midterm elections. The session was joined by Japanese business representatives, academics, and those from DC-based think-tanks.
Roundtable Discussion with Hiroshima G7 Global Health Taskforce Director in Washington DC

In 2023, Japan will host the G7 Summit in Hiroshima. JCIE has established a Hiroshima G7 Global Health Task Force to make recommendations to the Japanese government on the G7 agenda for global health. This roundtable was an opportunity for leading US policymakers and experts to hear from and offer feedback to the director of the Task Force, Dr. Hideaki Shiroyama.
Democracy for the Future | Diet Roundtable with NED Vice President Brian Joseph

National Endowment for Democracy (NED) Vice President Brian Joseph spoke about the role of nongovernmental organizations such as the NED in supporting democracies to a group of 15 Diet members as well as six staff from Diet offices. The group discussed a wide range of topics in relation to democracy support and the state of democracy in Asia, including challenges with Myanmar’s democratization process, challenges surrounding the situation in Hong Kong, and Japan’s role as the region faces setbacks to democracy.

The US-Japan Women Leaders Dialogue brought a bipartisan duo of state legislators to Japan for briefings and roundtables on US-Japan trade and security ties and on women’s empowerment in politics and business in Japan.

Five community leaders, mainly from Kanagawa Prefecture, traveled to meet with counterparts in Washington DC and Columbus OH to share best practices and insights into the shared challenge of better coping with aging populations.

In 2006, JCIE launched the JCIE Tanaka Juku, an annual three-month series of intensive evening seminars for about 20 young political leaders, corporate executives, journalists, and emerging intellectual leaders under the tutorage of Hitoshi Tanaka, JCIE senior fellow and former deputy minister for foreign affairs.

At the 32nd Japanese-German Forum, held in Tokyo, Japanese and German politicians, policy experts, business leaders, and journalists discussed key bilateral topics including demographic changes, the impact of AI, and the upcoming US election.
FGFJ Presents Leadership Awards at Reception to Welcome Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands

Friends of the Global Fund, Japan hosted a reception on March 4, 2025, on the occasion of Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands’ first visit to Japan in two years. On this occasion, an awards ceremony was also held to honor Japan’s leadership in fighting the world’s three major infectious diseases, recognizing five individuals and organizations from various sectors.
