Israel-Japan Intellectual Exchange Program | 6th Delegation to Japan

The 6th Israel-Japan Intellectual Exchange Program was held in Tokyo, Japan, on March 15–19, 2004, to bring together opinion leaders and nongovernmental leaders from both countries. Participants discussed the common challenges that they face particularly security issues, as well as potential areas of cooperation.

As part of the fifth Israel-Japan Exchange Program, seven intellectual leaders from Israel visited Tokyo on October 9-16, 2001, for a series of meetings and briefings with prominent Diet members, diplomats, scholars, and business leaders on Japan’s sociopolitical, economic, and foreign policy trends.

Human Security in the United Nations | Tokyo Workshop

In 2003, JCIE was commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct an assessment of several projects funded by the Trust Fund on Human Security (TFHS), focusing on how human security has been incorporated and applied in TFHS-funded projects from the conception phase through the implementation processes. As part of the project, JCIE held a workshop in Tokyo to discuss the preliminary findings and their implications.

Global ThinkNet Fellows | Workshop on Transformation of Japanese Communities and the Emerging Local Agenda

As part of the Global ThinkNet Fellows Program, a study group consisting of young Japanese scholars and thinktank researchers participated in a workshop and study tour in San Francisco under the auspices of the Public Policy Institute of California. The discussion results were incorporated into the project’s final report, available in both Japanese and English.

Global Village of Beijing—Japan Exchange Tour

JCIE facilitated the production of a TV special on Japan created by the Global Village of Beijing (GVB), one of the very few independent environmental NGOs in China, and held a joint seminar on the environment with GVB.

Seminar and Roundtable on US-Japan Cooperation on Global Health

Dr. Harvey Fineberg, president of the Institute of Medicine and former dean of the Harvard School of Public Health, visited Tokyo to speak at a seminar organized by JCIE on ways in which the new governments in the United States and Japan could reshape bilateral cooperation on global health issues, stressing important relationships with both the private sector and the developing world.

Global Health Roundtable | Human Resource Development and the Future of Africa

On July 14, 2009, Professor Miriam K. Were, first laureate of the Hideyo Noguchi Africa Award, visited Tokyo for a series of meetings with global health experts and a roundtable with Japanese leaders from various sectors. Professor Were is chairperson of the Kenyan National AIDS Control Council and co-founder and chairperson of the UZIMA Foundation of Kenya.

G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit Follow-up | International Conference on Global Action for Health System Strengthening

A high-level international conference was convened in Tokyo on November 3–4, 2008, to explore the creation of a global strategic framework for strengthening health systems in developing countries around the world, with a particular emphasis on clarifying the role of the G8 in the field.

Dissemination Seminars in the United States—Global Action for Health System Strengthening

Two dissemination seminars for Global Action for Health System Strengthening were organized in Washington DC, one on March 17, 2009, that was organized in collaboration with the Center for Global Development (CGD) and which targeted experts from think tanks and US government agencies, and another on March 19, 2009, in collaboration with InterAction, which targeted representatives of humanitarian and development NGOs.

Dissemination Seminar in Asia—Global Action for Health System Strengthening

The primary goal of this seminar was to share with a broad group of global health stakeholders the outcomes of a recent report produced by an international task force of global health experts.
